The Green Tree Brewery sits on the banks of the Mississippi River in LeClaire, Iowa, where Interstate 80 crosses between Iowa and Illinois.
When they first opened up they had six beers on tap, and now there is fifteen on tap in a wide variety. From blond, to wheat, to pale ales, and stouts. Then variations of those same beers. From fruity beers, to coffee stouts, to hoppy and extremely hoppy, juicy beers!
Green Tree brews less than a thousand barrels a year, on a fifteen barrel system. A barrel is basically two regular sized kegs, so each batch makes about thirty kegs of beer.
They have quite a range of types and styles of beers. They have blond ales and wheat beers. Both are served as originally made and two more with fruits blended with them. They have a great oatmeal stout, and that same oatmeal stout blended with some of the best coffees the local coffee supplier can find. The mint chocolate and chocolate cherry coffee's are so popular we almost can't keep up with demand!
They offer a traditional IPA and that same beer blended with mangos. Brewer Doc Richard Day says, "I can't tell you how many people that say they don't like IPA's, while they sip on our Mango blended IPA, called Mango Me Hoppy." They have a dry hopped IPA and several versions of the really popular New England IPA's, depending on what time of the year it is.
Then to round the selection out, they offer a Irish style red ale. Around the holidays this year, we tried blending some chocolate with the red. The response has been so good that we can't take it off for the summer. The beer slayers tell me that the customers are very vocal about not taking that one off.
Their tap room has outlets and USB ports everywhere, to keep your electronic devices up and running. In the summer months (and winter, if you're dressed warm), they have a very nice patio overlooking the Mississippi River. You can relax and enjoy your beers and watch the peaceful river go by, and the trains and barges too!
